11-year-old Yrel loves speed, the feeling of flying through the air like a Parisian pigeon. When he whizzes through the French capital on his skateboard, the wind blows through his long dark hair. His tricks in front of the Eiffel Tower are spectacular. Training three times a week, he is currently preparing for the French skateboarding championships. He qualified for this because he is the best skater in his age group in the Ile-de-France region, the area around Paris. Yrel comes from the Philippines and is not French.
That's why he can't become a French champion. Although he has lived in France for six years, he did not have a residence permit until now and was unable to travel to the international competitions to which he was invited. But now that will soon be possible. Skateboarding will open up a better life for him and his family. And it is important to him to show what he can do in Brittany, to show the other skaters his best tricks in a 50-second “line” - even if it is not about winning.
