At the table with Lucie - Christmas Baking
Christmas baked goods are more than just sweets – they tell stories of regions and their traditions. But where do these customs actually come from? The program explores pagan light breads, monastic baking techniques, and cookie shapes with religious significance. During the Advent season, all over Europe bakes according to centuries-old traditions: In Alsace, the Riahi family prepares fruit bread, and in Weissensee, Austria, the Knaller family bakes cookies with pumpkin seed oil. Chef Lucie Fischer Chapalain takes viewers into her kitchen to bake a classic Bûche de Noël and French gingerbread. She also shares tips for perfect icing, which she uses to delicately decorate cookies. Italian panettone is transformed into French toast – perfect for the time after Christmas.
