Sarah Arnold is in love—with James, a Maasai man from Tanzania. Consequently, she is emigrating to Tanzania with their two children to build a happy life with James in his homeland. However, the country of her dreams is proving more challenging than expected. Her young daughter quickly becomes homesick, which breaks Sarah’s heart. Living arrangements with the extended African family, along with the financial hurdles of running a safari business and two newly built vacation rentals, bring more stress and complications than anticipated. Will Sarah overcome these challenges, or will this move, driven by love, end in failure? Elske has been living on Zanzibar with her husband Sadat for many years.
The couple runs a small guesthouse there and has settled into a comfortable life. Yet, even for these seasoned expats, daily challenges arise. Elske is well aware of the issues a white woman faces in Tanzania; she converted to Islam and adapted to the local culture, though her family was not initially thrilled about the marriage.
