Bayreuther Straße - hope, hunger and Hartz IV Get out of the social hotspot

People who are threatened with homelessness in Ludwigshafen move to Bayreuther Straße. Some stay for a few months, others for life. Poverty unites them all. But the people have goals for which they fight. We accompanied the residents for four years.

Reportage portrait in six parts about Bayreuther Strasse in Ludwigshafen, one of the oldest social hotspots in the country, where livelihoods have always scraped past various borders. How does it feel to live there, where politics and society prefer not to look too closely?

The Bayreuther Straße in Ludwigshafen is part of the city's referral area. Anyone threatened with homelessness moves in here. Some stay only a few months, others for life. But there is hope here too - happy people live here too. Many residents of Bayreuther Straße say: "We like living here". These contrasts make Bayreuther Straße a unique residential area. Pasquale and Miroslawa (64) want to get out of Bayreuther Straße as soon as possible. Pasquale, 74, has lung disease - the flat in Bayreuther Straße is damp and mouldy. For the couple, this is an untenable condition. Now they have been promised a flat outside Bayreuther Straße, but the move is on the back burner.

Danny (41) and Nicole (34) want to bring their three children back home as soon as possible. They have been in different homes for a year. Until the children are back with them, the two want to change something about their living situation. Because Nicole is pregnant again. Patricia likes living in Bayreuther Straße. The 52-year-old has been through a lot in her life. With her new boyfriend Rainer, she hoped to have finally found happiness in love. But now Patricia has broken up with him. She finds comfort with her friends in Bayreuther Straße and with her animals. But Patricia is currently plagued by another problem: cockroaches that populate her entire flat.
