mare TV - The Mecklenburg Bay: From Boltenhagen to Warnemünde

The Mecklenburg Bay is the largest German Baltic Sea bay. The scenic variety ranges from the cliffs of Großklützhöved near Boltenhagen to the island of Poel and Kühlungsborn. Detlef Wodars first gives out strokes when he comes to work: The water buffalo bull Simon is extremely jealous if young bull Rüdiger is first to be caressed. And today is also a very special day for the herd. For the first time they are to be driven from the stable to the new pasture.

Detlef Wodars has to give out caresses: When Detlef Wodars arrives at work, he first has to give out strokes: Simon, the water buffalo bull, is extremely jealous - woe betide young bull Rüdiger if he gets caressed first! And today is also a very special day for the herd: they are to be moved from the stable to the new pasture for the first time. It is located in the middle of the Salzhaff near Rerik and is ideal for the buffalo, which are actually native to Asia - it is beautifully marshy and has lots of tasty reeds. For Detlef, the upwelling is a real challenge, as his sensitive fish cannot be herded, only lured.

The fight against fish thieves: Kai Dunkelmann, a fisherman from Boltenhagen, fights against fish thieves. Poachers regularly steal the catch from his fish traps. Numerous complaints have come to nothing. Now Dunkelmann personally lies in wait in the dark.

"Molli" steam railway: The historic "Molli" spa steam railway, which puffs back and forth between Kühlungsborn, Heiligendamm and Bad Doberan, was previously firmly in the hands of male train drivers. But Stefanie Zepik, who is actually a workshop engineer, wants to change that. She is currently studying for her locomotive driver's licence.

Getting your feet wet when docking: anyone boarding the MS "Salzhaff" ferry between Rerik and the island of Poel is in for a wet surprise at their destination. There is no landing stage on the island's shore at Gollwitz. The last few metres to the shore lead through waist-high water. Nils Steußloff, the captain, is also required to act as an on-board psychologist. He has to encourage older passengers in particular before the wet landing.

Always following the wave: The surfers from Rostock-Warnemünde are dependent on larger ships: The Scandinavian ferries give them an almost perfect bow wave - every two hours: surfing according to a timetable is only possible in the Bay of Mecklenburg.
