Vet on Föhr Janine Bahr-van Gemmert is not only a vet on Föhr, Amrum and the neighbouring mainland, but also an animal rescuer. On call seven days a week around the clock, a challenge that Janine Bahr-van Gemmert can only meet with her helpers at Tierhuus Insel Föhr. The patients are pets of islanders and holidaymakers as well as sick and injured wild animals. No animal, large or small, should suffer if it can be helped: from wrens to cold-blooded horses.
Art project Pflanzenklang Two artists in Hanover want to show that not only can humans talk to plants, but that plants can also talk to humans. Silke Rokitta and Markus Hutter wire up trees, shrubs and grasses and give them a voice. A synthesiser makes the electrical currents of the plants audible. The two artists will be on the road with their installation, the STRŒME project, in various parts of Hanover until the autumn. Their aim is to draw attention to the scarcity of greenery in urban areas.
African sounds from Walsrode The Sansula is a small thumb piano. The wooden hand flatterer is a product from Lower Saxony. The instruments are handmade by the second generation of the Hokema family business in Walsrode. It is a long and interesting journey from the piece of wood to the finished instrument. And: you can play this instrument after just ten minutes of practice. The Tractor Olympics in Imbsen The "only true" 2024 Olympics for tractor enthusiasts will take place on a field in Imbsen, organised by the Bulldog Club Imbsen.
Different historic tractors compete on several skill courses. The club was founded more than 30 years ago to save old tractors. The club now has 60 members and 15 tractors, from 1938 to the 1970s. Their sound is incomparable and firing up the old machines is spectacular. 50 years of the Steinhuder Meer National Park: book launch In 1974, the Steinhuder Meer and other parts of the surrounding landscape became a nature park. To mark its 50th anniversary, Heinrich Hecht has created a kind of birthday book for the nature park.

Oceanographic Museum before the opening Since the end of 2020, the Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund has been completely remodelled. Although the complete reopening is still a little way off, the exhibitions in the historic Katharinenkloster monastery will be open to visitors from 17 July. Portrait Malte Brekenfeld The painter Malte Brekenfeld draws from a never-ending well of imagination and skill and amazes many people with his work. His works are just as popular in the galleries of cruise ships as they are in the countryside of Mecklenburg.
