He digs deeper and wants to find solutions. The award-winning journalist looks into the soul of a country that is currently characterized by unrest and worries, including a shift to the right, migration and poverty.

“My optimism back then that integration can work on a grand scale has been further dampened by my research in Germany” (Paul Ronzheimer)

What is the state of German migration policy? In the second episode, Paul Ronzheimer looks at a topic that is currently dividing opinion in Germany like no other: Migration.

In 2023, around 350,000 people applied for asylum. Cities and local authorities are overwhelmed with accommodation and successful integration.

Paul Ronzheimer: “As a reporter, I covered the refugee crisis intensively in 2015, I was in Syria, Afghanistan and Libya, from where hundreds of thousands of people came to Germany. My optimism back then that integration can work on a large scale has been further dampened by my research in Germany. There are many, many immigrants in Germany who are doing everything they can to integrate well and become part of German society. But there are also those who don't want to be integrated. And this problem must be clearly addressed.”

Is the fear of crime and foreign infiltration justified? Is it necessary to tighten up migration policy? Paul Ronzheimer talks to refugees, politicians, police and citizens.
