Where other hospitals reach their limits, Ludwigshafen's "Emergency Room" is at its best. The emergency room at the Unfallkrankenhaus is staffed primarily by specialists for the most seriously injured. The hospital is one of the largest centers for emergency medicine in Germany, and many of the 20,000 patients treated each year arrive by helicopter. In the shock room, the heart of the department, a state of emergency is the rule.
